How Many More Visits With A Surgeon After The First One?

A MyObesityTeam Member asked a question 💭
Peterborough, ON

I’m having bypass surgery soon (in Toronto) and have completed all of the appointments. I have my appointment with the surgeon soon and was wondering if anyone knows if I will get my surgery date at that appointment? I was told to bring a credit card to buy the shakes I need to drink prior to surgery. Also are there more surgeon appointments before surgery or just the one? I can’t find anything clear online. Thanks!

I did NOT buy the shakes at the Dr.s office( they are ALWAYS more $$$). I STILL drink them after 15 years( I'm unique like that!!). Most people don't. I just enjoy them as" my breakfast " . What I would do if I were you, is look at WHAT HE RECCOMENDS as far as nutrients in the shake( and get your own ( much cheaper) . Same with daily vitamins...BTW, I didn't ask you..I just assumed....What type of surgery are you getting ??? RNY GASTRIC BYPASS? or "THE SLEEVE" ?? It does make ALOT of difference!!!

Hey, CONGRATS.. on deciding to get bypass surgery. I'm 15 years post op. BEST THING I EVER DID 🍾❤😍. Wish I did it SOONER (would have saved me the eye damage from the diabetes) . Anyhow, to answer your question, after I met with my surgeon, it was a few months later before I actually had the surgery. It would have been LONGER ,But ....I've been heavy all my life ,and we were able to get GOOD DOCUMENTATION from all my PREVIOUS DOCTORS re: wt.loss meds/ co morbidity meds ( I had 3/4 needed for surgery) and any WT.LOSS "PROGRAMS" that I was a part of ..... They all play a factor in time till surgery. ( even "approval " of surgery) . ***A NOTE OF CAUTION ***I wish someone would have told me!!! Please be aware ...wherever you have your surgery at...make certain that they will be around for you!!!. I was PROMISED "LIFETIME FOLLOW UP CARE" . They closed ONE YEAR LATER. SOME *ASS*OLE .. Did not follow Docs instructions post op, thought he could eat "WHATEVER HE WANTED"..Cause he could, and the surgery would "save him" ..Ended up ,DEAD ...And the FAMILY SUED THE DOC & HOSPITAL, and forced them to close.... The next facility in that network is in Pennsylvania ( I live in N.Illinois) NOT REAL CONVIENIENT. Anyhow.. Good luck, Any other questions, feel free to txt me..Paula 🌹
